Artist Bio

My name is Lauren Hernandez Ortiz, and I am a figurative artist; I enjoy painting the human body and all its folds and creases. I was born in San Juan Puerto Rico we moved to the states in 2011, moving away from my extended family was a hard transition for me because we are all so close. I started painting at a very young age, my grandfather was a huge influence. He was an art collector who pushed me towards making art, buying me supplies and art kits. I was a victim of continuous sexual assault by a family member, causing me to develop borderline personality disorder. I depict my disorder through self-portraits and nonfigurative items, the trials and tribulations that comes with BPD. As I’ve grown older, I learned that I define my disorder, it does not define me. My art is uniquely mine, anyone who knows my work can identify it
